Protecting the Garage from Weather Conditions
07/28/2013 Back To BlogOverhead Garage doors are subject to all conditions of the weather. They can experience extreme dry heat as well as weltering cold winds. Properly protecting it from these weather conditions will provide longevity to your garage and its door. Doing so will also cut-down on costly repairs or even possibly having to constantly replace the door every couple of years.Keeping the exterior of the door protected in most cases involve reinforcing the exterior in order to keep the interior from being harmed.
Sealing the Door
A great way to protect your electronic garage door from the weather is to make sure the bottom of the door is properly sealed. Without it, cold and heat will filter-in underneath the bottom of the door. Gaps can also develop overtime from the driveway concrete tilting or cracking. There are kits available at most hardware stores that can help you properly seal the bottom of the door from these problems.
Replace Old Door with Insulated Door
If the outdoor temperature is penetrating through your door, sometimes it is best to simply purchase a new door that has bettergarage door insulation. The current one may not have adequate weather protection. Doors that have hollow cores are an example of such non-insulated doors. Garage door repair Rowland Heights recommends always getting a door that has a good fire rating as well as good insulation.
Insulate the Walls
The walls that are between the house and the garage should also be insulated. This will also help protect against the dry winds of the outdoors. Drill a small hole in the specified wall to check to see if it is already insulated. If so, you will usually find insulation that is blown-in or perhaps fiberglass paddings of insulation.
